Remember - Keep Your Jewelry Out of The Swimming Pool
Why you might ask? Ok wise guy, I'll tell you! You might not realize it but the chlorine used to purify the water in your pools acts just like acid on your gold jewelry. Over time, it can actually destroy your gold jewelry by eating away at the base metals that gold is alloyed with.
Also remember, if you are around chlorine bleach such as when you are washing clothes, the effect is still the same....eating away and weakening of your gold jewelry!
So heed my warning folks and you'll save an expensive repair bill or worse yet, the total replacement cost of your beloved gold jewelry!

Gold Mine Awarded Caldwell County Small Business of the Year
I'm pleased to announce that The Gold Mine Fine Jewelry & Gifts, Inc. was awarded the "Caldwell County Small Business of the Year Award" for 2009 from The Caldwell County Chamber of Commerce! Needless to say, we were honored & humbled to receive such an award which is given to local Caldwell county businesses because of job creation/employee development, exceptional customer service, unique product development and marketing.Certainly, we feel there are many businesses in our area deserving of this award, but thanks Chamber of Commerce for your kindness in giving us this award.
It is our hope that even during this difficult recessionary period that other businesses and individuals can see that they can still be successful...you simply have to search for a niche and fill it! Dig a little harder, knock and the door will open. We're reminded that even during the Great Depression, that business was still being done and some were being successful.....don't let the news get you down...yes, times are tough, but tough times don't last, tough people and businesses do!
Most of all, thanks go to our valued clients for supporting all these many years and to the Lord for giving us grace and for making a way, when sometimes the pathway got really dark!
Success,

Jewelry Appraisals
It seems with the job situation and the economy being what it is that many folks are being vandalized...jewelry taken from their homes, businesses, vehicles, etc. Usually, most of these folks think that their home owner's insurance policy will cover their jewelry in case of theft. It will, but only to a small extent if you do not have a separte ryder policy for your jewelry (this only costs a few extra dollars per month on your insurance premium by the way)! If you do not have this type of extra protection, most home owner's policies only cover jewelry up to about a $1000, which in most cases, is not nearly enough.
What would most insurance agents tell you? They would say that you need to have all of your valuable jewelry appraised by a qualified jewelry appraiser and brought in to them so they may add it to your current insurance policy. It really doesn't cost that much to do either, considering what you stand to lose in case of theft.
Of course, we as well as many other qualified jewelers offer this type of "Jewelry Appraisal" service. I beg you folks, please get your jewelry appraised and then insured, it could save you thousands of dollars in the end. If you have any questions about appraisals or insurance, just drop me an email or give me a call! Until next time..
Success,

Gold Mine Welcomes New Goldsmith To The Family!
You'll love Tim's fine workmanship and attention to detail. To tell you a little bit about Tim....he was a teacher of metallurgy (working with all metals) at Caldwell Community College & Technical Institute and he also owned & operated his own jewelry & repair shop in Caldwell County for many years as well.
It is certainly nice to have someone of Tim's caliber here at The Gold Mine. Our store has become known for its custom design and repair work which is done primarily on-premises, unlike most other jewelry stores. If you have a treasured family heirloom in need of repair or you'd like to design a up & coming family heirloom...Tim's your man and he'll be glad to assist you. Stop by and say "Hello" to Tim and welcome him to the family....we think you're really going to like him just as much as we do!
Sincerely,

Christmas & Jewelry - A Sparkling Combination
Ever since I was a kid, I have loved everything about the Christmas season...the music, the food, family, memories made and of course the gifts! Now don't get ahead of me here...I'm not talking about receiving but the "giving of gifts". Many folks are just like me and they love to see the look on the face of the receipient of their gifts...that smile, that look of surprise, appreciation & love....that just says it all! Even after having been married for nearly 20 years and having been in the jewelry business for 25 years, Angie my wife still loves to receive the gift that sparkles....fine jewelry!!!Of course, jewelry comes in all sizes, tastes, designs and certainly, one item doesn't fit all. Diamonds are always an appropriate gift because of the things they represent: durability (your love endures forever), fire (the excitement of your relationship), beautiful clear white color ( the perfect gem for all occasions) the cutting or faceting (representing all the facets of you and your loved one's life). Lets also not forget about gold & silver, long treasured for their intrinsic value & worth (can show the worth & value you put on your relationships). Gemstones of all colors of the rainbow in a wide array of jewelry such as bracelets, earrings, rings, necklaces...you name it...there is a gemstone for everyone (lets not forget that everyone has a birthstone!) Each anniversary has a gemstone assigned to it as well as the tribes of israel in the Bible (each has a gemstone).
So you see, jewelry truly can represent many important facets of your life and its an enduring gift that lasts for years! I love to see families pass jewelry down through the generations as family heirlooms....what a great tradition! Let me make a suggestion...why not start a new family tradition with a new jewelry heirloom to be passed down and treasured for many generations with the gift of fine jewelry this Christmas? Above all else, lets not forget to treasure those who mean the most to us this season.......
Season's Greetings,

2008 - The Year The Independent Jeweler Died
So how do we keep our stores successful in these difficult economic times? Here are a few suggestions:
- Look for a way to differentiate yourself from the "Crowd". Define what it is that makes your store different from all the chain jewelers and forecast that message in everything you do. Some marketing gurus call this your "USP" or Unique Selling Propisition. Here at The Gold Mine we put our USP or elements of it in every piece of marketing we do.
- Realize that just like a lake that dries up when the streams that feed it are clogged our stores must continually have new streams of business coming into it such as: looking for corporate clients to sell corporate awards to, selling & buying scrap gold, silver & platinum, going after your local high school/college classring business, etc.
- You must make yourself or your store more visible in the public and local community by supporting local charities, being available for speaking events regarding the jewelry industry and honing your store's message that it is an active member in the business community at-large.
- Don't rest on your laurels, constantly be looking for new products and new ways of informing your clients about them. Almost daily, we hear of a new type of media or way of marketing and we must get in tune with it or die!
- Realize that your new customers, those under the age of 30, are getting their information about your products on the internet first! Make sure you have a good online presence...study the internet and become proficient in the multiple ways in can enhance or hurt your business.
I'm thankful to my faithful clients who shop with us and I'm always looking for ways I can bring massive rewards, benefits and information that better serves them to them. We as independent jewelers must realize that we are in the "Marketing of jewelry & jewelry related services" first and foremost rather than just "being" a jeweler. Times are a changing and we must change with them or 2008 could be the last round in the fight for our way of doing business.
I challenge all independent jewelers as well as specialty retailers at large to take a good look at their business and rethink ways they may better serve their clients!
Sincerely,
